France’s Syndrome 81 started gaining momentum in the Punk scene with their 2013 demo tape, drawing comparisons to the plethora of great bands that defined the French Oi sound of the 1980s with a heavy stomp culled from classic USHC. The band has progressed since then, and the sound is more diverse but also more defined, having filed off some of the American influences and moved in a darker, distinctly French direction that is both melancholy and anthemic, with lyrics being influenced by growing up in Brest, France.

The band comes from this dark place and write songs about their personal struggles growing up and growing old. These are songs about watching your friends lose sight and move on while you question why you are still here, haunted by your past and having to look your former self in the eye while you apologize for who you’ve become. These are songs about trudging through a desert you built yourself.

The Year is 1986 and THE APOSTLES are in full flow with three albums ('Punk Obituary' on Mortarhate Records, 'The Lives and Times of the Apostles' on Children of the Revolution Records and 'How Much Longer?' on Acid Stings plus a split 7” with JOY OF LIVING on Fight Back Records), but the one that no one could find was the split 7” with ANATHEMA, again on Fight Back Records. That’s because it never came out. Test pressings were made and given to the bands to approve but it just never happened. Nothing sinister and no reason - it just sat there and never made it over the line. 33 Years later Inflammable Material finally release the 6 track EP on a 12” with a Fanzine and ANATHEMA from New Malden, Surrey finally get their first release on vinyl. ANATHEMA deliver two tracks of tuneful anarcho punk with some tight guitar work including some screeching solos and passionate vocals whilst on the flip THE APOSTLES give us four tracks of their usual primal and chaotic work including the fantastic track "Punk Squat" which is just drums and vocals and some of the best lyrics of the era (Sean Forbes, Rough Trade)

I’ll start with a personal favourite, the split between Conspiracy of Denial (Athens) and Lethe (Patras), which was released in early March. Dark, atmospheric and aggressive crust by two of the best representatives of today’s new wave of bands. The CoD side is a well-planned sonic attack, from the crust onslaught in “Lethargos” to the blackened tremolo riffs and the relentless blastbeat in “Smells Like Death” and the doomy guitar parts in “Sacrifices”. Even the arrangement of the tracks has been done with care. Lethe grab you by the neck, with their apocalyptic d-beat in “Units” and the skin-crawling, electrified atmosphere of “Schizadrania”. The same pattern of existential violence continues in “One Voice” and when their side concludes with “Negation”, one can only hit the repeat button. In addition to the excellent music that can be found in this split, the production is amazing, a snapshot of a growing trend we witness in the last few years, meaning underground bands paying attention to this aspect of their releases, in genres they weren’t used to do so in Greece. In my humble opinion, this release will be particularly influential on the scene in many ways. A truly great album.

無我 (Muga) was a melodic metallic Crust band from Nagoya, Japan.
Apart from their two full-length releases, ''無我'' and ''There Is Nothing Eternal Exists'' there is the demo tape ''The Road of Asura'' and a split with Swarrrm.
They also appeared on Relapse Record's ''Japanese Assault'' compilation. This is the re-press on vinyl of their 2008 CD "There Is Nothing Eternal Exists".

KAAOS - Ei Enään Kipua Ei Tuskaa LP

Kaaos were one of the foremost Finnish hardcore bands of the '80s along with RATTUS, TERVEET KADET, APPENDIX, BASTARDS and RIISTETYT.

Formed in March 1980, they were one of the first hardcore punk bands in Finland to release a record, and though their line-up has changed frequently through the years, the band is somewhat active through the years.

1983, Kaaos went to the studio to record new material for a LP but that session was never released.
Finally this whole material is remastered and released for the first time.

Kürøishi "Sound The Alarm" LP

Finland’s d-beat hardcore punk band Kürøishi is finally dropping their monster second LP “Sound The Alarm”.

While the sold-out first LP "Poverty. Ignorance. Greed. Slavery” stemmed from a traditional Scandinavian style of "Tragedy via Wolfbrigade", "Sound the Alarm" LP leans a lot more on a tasteful Japanese hardcore influence.

 The Tragedy heaviness and bleak atmosphere is still prevalent, with crushing dirges and desperate melodic riffing, but here the songs are more guitar-focused, with blazing guitar leads and huge epic guitar solos pumping adrenaline to the extreme. Set that to high-charge tempos and throw in some big gang choruses with guest appearances from bands like Think Again/ Systematic Death, NoLA, No Excuse, Vivisektio and Rotten Sound, and you've got your winter soundtrack all sorted out.

Recorded and mixed by Antti Lindholm at Boat Island Studio April - July 2019 and mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door Mastering (Martyrdöd, Forward, Framtid etc.).

"Sound The Alarm" comes with a sleeve drawn and painted by none other than the true japanese artist and legend Akihiko "Sugi" Sugimoto himself.

Well, SOUND POLLUTION from Greece belong to that cult-infused era and their split 7″ with ROTTING CHRIST (when they were still a total Grind band) has a special place in the heart of all the sickos worshipping that underground niche crossing all the barriers set by Hardcore, Thrash and Grind until then.
